Reason 1: Faulty Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor

The ECT sensor is an engine module sensor that is part of the engine coolant system. It has an electrical connection in the end. 

An ECT sensor regulates the fuel transmission amount to the engine based on its temperature. If the engine is cold, it decides to transport more fuel to the engine.

On the contrary, if the engine is warm, it decides to deliver less fuel to the engine.

Now if this ECT sensor is not working correctly, it’ll consider the engine to be cold.  Therefore, it’ll allow more fuel to be transmitted to the engine. This is when the engine doesn’t start, or if started, runs roughly.

To check if your ECT sensor is not working, you need a diagnostic scanner. If you don’t know where to find an engine diagnostic scanner, you’re at the right place.
