Some of the methods might seem a bit complex to execute. However, they are not and you can fix them without breaking a sweat. So, we advise you to take a little breath before you start.

That being said, let’s hop on the wagon and head right in –

Fixes #1: Faulty Fuses Can Ruin Your Display

A fuse is the weakest link of the circuit. It protects the system from short circuits. Luckily, they are very easy to check and replace.

To check on the fuse, we have to open the passenger compartment box first. This may seem a little complex to you. And if it does, don’t hesitate to take it to an electrician.

However, if you’re interested in a little DIY, you can follow these instructions.

Check the Fuses

The compartment box is located on the left side and behind the steering wheel. This is common for all Avalon models.

To help you out, we have provided the fuse numbers according to your Avalon model.

2000-2004 Toyota Avalon

If you’re the owner of this model, the fuse you’re looking for is 36 and 40.

Fuse 36 is a fuse for an audio system and multi-information display. Similarly, Fuse 40 is also another fuse for multi-information display and radio systems.

So, check on these fuses to rule them out.

2005-2012 Toyota Avalon

2005-2012 Avalon models have three different fuses. However, two of them are in the engine compartment box. Just open the hood and you’ll see it on the left side.

For this car, open the engine compartment box and check the fuses 15 and 16. Then open up the passenger compartment box and find fuse 17.

Likewise, for 15 and 16, you need to open the engine compartment and fix it from there.

If you’re using this car, the fuses you need to check are 21 and 34.

Both of them are inside the passenger compartment and easy to access. Fuse 21 is for the audio and display system.

Likewise, the 34 is a fuse mainly for the panel. But it also is a fuse for display so it has to be checked as well.

Make sure to be very careful while changing the car fuse. Before you move on to replacement, get a box of fuses. They are very cheap.

Here are some of our recommendations to make this easier for you –

Now, you can easily get one and start working!

Fixes #2: Bad Display or a Bad Head Unit

We have already checked the fuses, so it’s time to go a little bit deeper. So, there are now three other possibilities related to display and head unit.

  • Your head unit is faulty
  • The backlight of your display has problems
  • The display itself is defective

Hire a Mechanic

Unfortunately, in all three cases, you have to take them to an electrician for repair. However, you can unplug the wiring harness and check the head unit’s wiring for yourself.

But in most cases, you’ll have to get an aftermarket head unit if it’s done for. However, if your service plan still has some time left, don’t hesitate to claim it. The same goes for the display unit as well.

Fixes #3: Software Bugs Can Freeze Your Display

There are many occasions where Avalon users reported that their display has bugged. So, you have to tread lightly if this is the case.

Check the Fuse Box and Wiring

The fuse system which we’ve already explained also covers this bug problem. Just detach the related fuse and then reattach it after 5-10minutes.

Now, restart your car and check whether your display boots up or not.

However, you can also detach the display panel and see the wiring for yourself.

Finally, all of these may seem too much of a hassle to you. In that case, you can just call for an electrician or a mechanic.
